This was the first trip where the sweet nectar of hate that exudes from almost every inhabitant back east actually got to me. This is a sure sign that I’ve been living in Boulder for way too long. What has gone wrong? I was once impervious to the evil, sarcastic, unfriendly and often times immigrant folk that inhabit the east coast. I don’t know if it was the weather or if people have just been particularly pissed recently, but you could almost taste the hate in the air. It was palpable.
Example #1: Dunkin Donuts
I arrived insanely early last Friday to Boston. I took the red-eye flight from DIA to BOS and got in at the ungodly time of 5:15 AM. Nobody is up that early, unless they work at a Dunkin Donuts. Someone has to make the god damn bagels and donuts after all. Upon my arrival I procured my baggage, rental car and headed for Somerville to visit my grandparents. However, I was in severe need of some food and caffeine… A Dunkin run was in order. I arrived at one of the 1,345,937 Dunkin’s that are in the greater Boston area and was greeted by someone who not only didn’t speak english, she was a trainee. Outstanding. This woman was insulted when I had to repeatedly ask her to slow down her speech so I could understand what the fuck she was saying… How rude of me, I didn’t order my bagel and coffee in Spanish!
Example #2: New York Toll Booth
I asked for a receipt and was essentially given the “fuck you” face. Not only that, my change was dropped on the ground.
Example #3: Everyone who skis at Hunter Mountain.
I don’t know how this happens, however just about every single person that was skiing at Hunter Mountain this weekend was a flaming bag of douche. Shouldn’t these miserable people be excited that they got to leave New Jersey / Long Island and their miserable lives for the weekend to go skiing?

You’ve become what is commonly known as a “pansy”.
For shame, Dave.

Pansy, you come out here to Colorado and say that to my face over some beers. Then we’ll see how the altitude treats you, pansy.

Truly inspirational, just like, “A great many college graduates come here thinking of lawyers as social engineers arguing the great Constitutional issues..”.
